700 years of operating makes it one of the oldest salt mines in Europe. The salt mine, located 15 km from Krakow, is the UNESCO World Heritage. It offers a great, 2,5 km long subterranean tourist route through 3 of 12 existing levels.
However very beautiful and informative, the route you visit is only 1% of the whole subterranean space which came to existence as a result of 700 years of exploration. The total length of corridors equals the distance between Krakow and Warsaw – 300 km!
The route includes the deepest operating chapel in the world, some salty lakes and great chambers with different salt formations.
